SIL LEAD and SIL International desire to support community organizations or associations and national organizations (CBOs & NGOs) by working together with them to support small projects planned by members of these communities. Small grants will be made available for up to five new projects in 2020. Projects will be considered that focus on goals related to education and development and use the ethnic languages spoken in these communities, or multilingual approaches. We are interested in culturally appropriate innovations that address felt needs and aim to improve the quality of life for local communities. Through collaboration on these small projects, SIL LEAD and SIL International aim to help build the reputation and organizational capacity of CBO and NGO grantees as they take steps towards achieving their community-based language and development goals.

SIL LEAD will fund up to 50% of the project cost for selected projects with budgets in the range of $10,000 to $20,000. To qualify for the grant, at least half of the resources needed for these projects must come from the CBOs and NGOs themselves. These local resources may be CBO/NGO funds in hand, income from fees, etc., funds they raise from other donors or partners, or in-kind donations.
